Toxigenic Bloom Predictive Models - Santa Barbara Channel: Page under construction
Current research efforts in the Santa Barbara Channel are combining hydrodynamic models with remote sensing models, and also with ecosystem models, to develop a method for detecting toxic blooms.
These HAB maps show the monthly mean toxic bloom probability for 2008. The maps were generated with remote sensing HAB models built from Plumes and Blooms environmental data.
Predictions can be made in near-real time, and are seasonally accurate. Image and information from Anderson et al, USHAB 2011.
These HAB maps also show the monthly mean toxic bloom probability for 2008. The maps were generated using model-generated nutrient fields coupled with an ecosystem model.
Forecasts can be made with these models that predict spring blooms, though chlorophyll estimates are low.
